Went to A-Mei’s World Tour concert last night with Dicky. 20 minutes into the show, I felt I’ve gotten my ticket’s worth.
She has impeccable control of her voice. And her live singing is better than CD quality; it is much more powerful. It was a phenomenal success, as I could clearly hear the 10,000 fans singing along to her classics like 我无所谓、听海、真实、别在伤口洒盐、原来你什么都不要 and 最爱的人伤我最深. Mass karaoke! Her minus-one tribute to her mentor 张雨声 was especially moving.
Best thing is, the balance of fast and slow tempo songs was perfect: enough fast songs to hype up the energy and showcase her dance moves, and enough slow ones to satisfy suckers for soppy love songs like me! Dicky and I stood up and danced to songs like 三天三夜 and 姐妹 at the end, when people around us all got up to leave. First time standing in Indoor Stadium!
Pity attention-seeking fans kinda ruined her attempts to build up emotion by constantly screaming her name in between songs.
I’m tempted to say this is the most entertaining concert I’ve watched this year. Jacky Cheung was great, but he danced too much and spoke too much Cantonese for my liking. And the fact that he’s holding another one, euphemistically titled “Encore”, in less than a year is quite an obvious attempt to earn more money when he still can. I feel cheated, because I thought the last one was his swan song of sorts, so like many others, scrambled for tickets.
Cheer Chen was impeccable too, but she entertained me in a vastly different way. Dicky, must go Cheer concert next year!!!
My dear 张信哲 is coming next year. Who wants to go listen to him too?
