Urgh, advertising is ugly, exploitative and a bane to this world.
Especially when money making is the only thing on the agenda. They really shouldn’t bother writing the ethics section in textbooks since there isn’t any.
I’m weary of my advertising project. No passion at all. Like I’m being forced to marry someone I don’t like. Will divorce on Jan 26.
Will marry PR from then on; hopefully I will have more passion for that one since I’m doing KMS.
Changfang kindly accompanied me to Miss Clarity and its vicinity to survey. We lapsed into impromptu Jeff chang singing session while waiting for the rain to be less merciless. (Thanks, Fang!) Had horribly sinful crispy chicken burger while she had a roasted chicken leg- hers was very good while my fries were too hard. Wld love the chicken skin to be peeled too.
The staff don’t smile at all (peak or non-peak hours) and that’s sadly incompatible with the cheerful and bright interior. My passion for that place (and doing ad campaign for it) is thus halved. Extinguished, maybe. I guess some things have to be compromised when they gain popularity and fame. It’s no longer the quaint, indie, personal place I once knew. There’s no human touch, no sense of camaraderie. Spoke with its manager and he told me to call the owner Nora for more info. I noticed the nuanced change in his facial expression when I told him my motive. Was asking casual questions like a customer at first. Turns out that some ad companies have approached them.
Went Mint toy musuem too, the interior design is strangely sleek and contemporary when its exhibits are vintage toys and collectibles from the past. Didn’t go in as we had to pay $8 entry fee. Chatted with the staff, seems like they’re hiring! I dont mind working there!
Food for Thought is a more indie place than Miss Clarity. The staff smiled at us and bantered with each other while MC ones didn’t. What’s most striking is that they support social causes. That’s really impressive despite it being so small and young. Saw their recruitment ad in the window and asked. Bleh, they aren’t hiring part time staff at the mo.
